Atheists, Since Scientist Never Witnessed The Big Bang What Made You Believe That They Shouldn’t Be Wrong?

Question Posed – Atheists, since scientist never witnessed the big bang or any other nature made miracles, what made you believe that they shouldn’t be wrong
I am Christian and studied evolution and geology in school, but my faith in God is stronger.

Who says all atheists believe in the Big Bang Theory – at least it is called a theory – the name given to unproven ideas.

  2. Bill K Atheist Goodfella Said:

Using your logic, it’s entirely possible that the story of god creating the earth, moon, sun, plants, etc. is false, since no one saw him do it.
Anyway, scientists have discovered mountains of evidence to prove that the universe, as we know it, came from the explosive decompression of a quantum singularity. The distance that starlight travels before reaching earth, the analysis of various radioactive images from the far reaches of the universe, universal expansion…these things and more prove the Big Bang.
Ironically, it was a christian who put forth the original hypothesis on the Big Bang.
You may have been in class when these things were taught, but it’s obvious (by your ‘faith in god’ statement), that you didn’t actually study them.

I went to get the roast chicken off the table but it was gone. My dog was stretched out by the table licking its lips and looking satisfied. ” Oh no!” I thought, ” some pixies have abducted my dinner”.
    1. is the universe expanding? Why yes it is, we can tell this from the easily observable red shift And if we play it back in time, run it backwards it all converges at a single point.
    2. Ok then, has the big bang theory made any prediction which proved true. Again yes, firstly the cosmic background radiation; which is like the smoke left behind by a firecracker going off, it exists as predicted. Not only does it exist, it also has the ‘lumpy’ nature predicted which would allow stars and galaxies to form. Secondly, the variable rate of expansion, the inflationary model predicted a change in expansion rate as the inflationary force overcame gravity. Did that happen? Yes, seven billion years ago the rate of expansion began to accelerate. How do we know that? Again from the red shift, the galaxies more that seven billion light years away are expanding at a different rate as predicted.
So given this evidence that the universe was once all condensed in a single point and is expanding outwards from that point we can conclude the universe was created six thousand years ago by a magic sky pixie rather than accepting the evidence before our eyes. Yes, that would be a reasonable assumption if you had forgotten to take your medication

I’m deist, evolution doesn’t have anything to do with God, nor does the big bang. Natural selection and Big Bang are both theories with extraordinary amounts of evidence to support them and evolution is a fact. Get over yourself and start learning what God actually did instead of what the church told you he did.

  5. Camm Said:

“Atheists, since scientist never witnessed the big bang or any other nature made miracles…”
Why are you asking atheists, when you question is more aimed at scientists?
Even further, why are you using “you” when your question is aimed for at another demographic [scientists]. “What made you believe that they shouldn’t be wrong?” Here again is another prime example of someone trying to say what they believe other people believe, which you don’t actually know what another truly believes.
Evolution has nothing to do with the Big Bang theory. Geology plays part, but it’s major to that theory either. If you’ve studied both you’d probably know that, however, seeing this question makes me think you slept during those lessons.
It’s good your faith in your God is strong, but God plays absolutely no part in this scientific theory. Your faith in God and the relevance of the Big Bang theory don’t really match up. Good try though….

I’m an atheist, but anyone who believes wholeheartedly in the big bang theory is an idiot. It’s a theory for a reason, but it’s the best theory that we can come up with. The big bang isn’t really the issue when it comes to atheism and religion though, it’s evolution; the big bang theory and evolution have nothing in common.

  7. aaronmsl Said:

One of the simple joys of not believing god is the cause of everything is the freedom it gives you to question things.
The big bang theory is the theory that brings together all the known facts we have about the origins of the universe in a coherent way that is supported by the evidence and can be used to make provable predictions (ie scientists say “based on this model we should see this…” and the go looking for it, and often enough, find it).
However, should someone come up with information entirely contradictory to the current theory, or prove that the theory is in some or all aspects incorrect, for scientists and atheists thats no problem – just means that we’re one step further along the path of knowledge.
Your problem is that you believe in something with absolutely no evidence, a contradictory and in many parts offensive, book of fairytales with no proof whatsoever, and if something comes up that contradicts it, the only choice you have is to ignore it or misrepresent it.

  8. Big Richard Cheney Said:

what makes you think that goddidit if you werent there to see goddoit?
I mean at least the scientists look at the evidence and see what might or might not have happened depending on how delusional you are and what evidence you ignore.
If you studied geology and evolution that might not help you with the big bang.

  9. Robert Abuse Said:

I am an atheist not a physicist.
I do believe that the `echo` of the Big Bang has been reliably recorded.
I believe in reality, you are welcome to keep your faith based myth, but, I will stay firmly in the real world thanks.
I studied History and Comparative Religion at College, my faith in any god is non existent.

  10. samuel ep Said:

Atheists simply rely on any option that is not related to God who created matter and life.
He believes a big bang has happened without God’s intervention. He believes life emerged from non-living chemicals. He believes a new species evolve from an old one. He doesn’t like to think how or why only earth was positioned in an orbit of a star in such a way water could exist in liquid form without boiling to steam and life could survive with the oxygen in the air. He never like to think how life came into existance. He least puts his head to reason why only man has the capability to communicate in verbal words and languages and only with man developement of intellect takes place. No monkey has made its food cooked or made its home different from it’s age old ancestors. He never like to discuss why a new species never comes to existance through any kind of evolution who can conquer man.
He knows the story of Babel tower and he knows what happened to the biggest nation on the surface of the world and its Goverment of Soviet Russia that denied God in substance, in its course of acquring the supreme power on earth.
But he doesn’t like to equate them together.
He knows the small nation Israel has been the target of any terrorist group or totalitarian power on earth, but survived to be the centre of attraction on the surface of the world as if a miracle. He knows more than any race or tribe on earth, Jewish people won more Nobel prizes for exellence in inventions and developments. He knows Jesus would come in rescue of the Jews when USA or Europian Union or any super force fail to take guard of them.
But he tries to find a way out from God and His programme. he calls himself atheist.

  11. terafloo Said:

    They’re not “miracles.”
And if deny all the observed evidence for the Big Bang (rate of inflation, cosmic background radiation) simply because we have no PHOTOGRAPHS, then we are truly being irrational.
You need to understand that for atheists it’s not about FAITH, it’s about EVIDENCE.

  12. dogpatch USA Said:

it’s the only evidential theory going so far . do you understand the meaning of the word evidence? it doesn’t always need a witness which in this case would be entirely impossible but it has rules and high standards such as in a case in the courts. I suggest your studies have yet to scratch the surface .

  13. Jared Said:

First of all, the big bang has an incredible amount of evidence to support that it happened. Literally the entire universe points to the big bang happening. Also, it’s not a “miracle.” God, it’s like you’ve never left a pew in your life. For that matter, couldn’t we use your own argument against you? Did you ever see Jesus perform miracles? No, just like you never saw Santa deliver presents down your chimney you idiot.

  14. your moms big fat hairy vagina Said:

i agree. however it makes more sense that thats how it happened and how old the earth is than what the bible says. but you are right, we dont know for sure
but heres also another thing to consider. your bible CLAIMS that that is how it happened, that it was because of god and there is no support or logical evidence for it. with the big bang theory, it’s a theory. scientists don’t claim that this is for sure, but that’s what they believe so they acknowledge the fact that they may be wrong and they didn’t come up with this conclusion out of nowhere.
they used logic and reasoning before doing so. something that most people who believe that it was god that did it dont do. they neither use logic to varify if theres any truth to it, nor can they admit that they might be wrong. but at least you gave science a chance and you’re not like other christians here who dont want to see things from our point of view. I will give you that much credit in that you looked at the bible and science and then made your decision. that and also that you admit that you could be wrong but you just feel safer going with god. I respect you for being able to do that much, unfortunately I can’t say the same about some of your fellow members though

    Sad!!!
Whilst of course no one was around for the big bang, and certainly could not have survived before, during or after it – there is huge mountains of evidence for it!!
The expansion of the universe, red and blue shift, different types of rock and matter in differing places and even the building blocks of life itself!!
But whilst you are of course free to believe in a god for which there is absolutely no evidence this continual trying to deny science just makes christians look silly!!
Why not apply your skepticism to christian claims?
There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record – that is right – not one!!! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah – all of whom are well recorded!!
He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?
Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!!
At best he was an amalgam of those others!!
Try answering such basic problems as that before trying to refute science!!

  16. da_unive Said:

Because there’s no possibility that a conscious supernatural force can exist.
1 You can’t be conscious without a brain.
2 There are too many paradoxes formed when an individual can do “anything”. Can God create a rock that he himself cannot lift?
3 So what if I go to hell? I really don’t mind because my nerve cells would be dead. I won’t feel any pain.
These are some of the reasons why I don’t believe in any conscious gods. Science makes a lot more sense.
And the Big Bang is just the most likely way that the universe was formed. That doesn’t mean it happened exactly like that.

  17. Grains_o Said:

I think I know why you asked what on the surface seems a stupid question.
You think that atheists have the same sort of right/wrong faith that the religious have.
The thing is, I bet there isn’t one atheist who absolutly believes the big bang the same way you absolutly believe in god. It just seems the most likely explanation at this point in time.

  18. Frou Frou Said:

you dont have to witnes soemthing to learn about it and find out whether it did or did not happen
thats like saying the only people who can prove a crime is the victims and the witness
so what, the police cant, the law cant?
    sorry, just doesnt fly
scientists STUDY science, and this includes THEORISING and finding EVIDENCE to support these theorys
    which the big bang has
im glad you have strong faith, but that doesnt give you a right to say antyhing about anyoen elses views, experneces or knowledge

  20. BassHow low can you go? Said:

Because scientists develop something called scientific theories and make hypotheses based on already established evidence….
It seems rather weird that you would pose a question like this yet you are the one believing in an idea entirely based on sentimentality.

  21. Thomas Jefferson Said:

Turn on your TV, antenna, you see snow? THATS BIG BANG RADIATION !
NOTHING IN MODERN COSMOLOGY OBSERVATIONS MAKES SENSE W/O BIG BANG. THERE HAS BEEN THOUSANDS OF PAPERS , EXPERIMENTS TRYING TO FIND FAULTS IN THE THEORY. NO FAULTS YET!

  22. Ephemerae Inc. Said:

Well, there hasn’t been any contradictory evidence so far that disproves the Big Bang Theory…

  23. Gwen Said:

There is lots of evidence that the big bang happened, but there is still no evidence of god.

  24. ??lly Said:

You believe in a person that “possibly” lied 2000yrs ago and you are giving us a hard time about not “witnessing” anything?

well then keep believing, im not stopping you, and the big bang is just a THEORY, so there could be a god, but regardless i will keep on being athiesty

  27. Richard C. Normus Said:

Not all atheists believe in the big bang either. To me it just makes more sense than an allmighty creator. Guess what people are free to believe in whatever they choose.

Jack, They base that nonsense on observations made with the hubble telescope which suggest the universe is expanding. Which in my opinion doesn’t prove squat .
