Question Posed – After taking Physical geology, and now in Historical Geology now this might be a silly question, but I’ll shoot it anyways. Is it possible to be a Christian, and a geologist, or a believer in geology? I ask because Christians believe the world is just thousands of years old, and in geology they believe the world is Billions of years old. Quite a bit of a difference. Geologists claim this as facts too, and if thats true then doesn’t that disprove the bible? Well alright this has had me wondering lately, lemme know. Also please don’t just go to some website and copy some info, gimmie a straight from the hip shot on your thoughts so to speak. Thanks!

To God the blink of an eye, is as to a thousand years. How often do you blink in the course of 7 days?
The Earth is 4.6 Billion Years and it can be confirmed in about 8 ways to Christmas. Radiometric Dating, Paleontologically, from rates of deposition of modern sediments from cross cutting stratigraphic relationships, from rates of ocean ridge spreading and paleomagnetism and so on. It is easy to be both Christian and a Geologist. Just use the brain God gave you and He will love you all the more for it and bless your life as He has mine. Good Luck!
Yes it is possible, why not? Althought i think we can rely more on proofs about the age of the earth than on the bible, which is based on faith, so there are no facts from the bible. there are some elements said in the bible that has been proved but i think scientists really got it. and DON’T trust dr. hovind, cause he’s a liar.
ps: oh and if you want to debate on the bible, you can contact me=)
Im a christian and I believe in geology. I researched and found out that god made the eras like the dinosaurs came before adam and eve. I think God changed earth until he thought it was perfect. So yea i think the earth is billions years old.
I am a believer also and had to reconcile the christian faith in me and the love of science. I believe the more advanced we become on science the more we must be in awe of a great Creator. If you look at the first chapter in the Bible on the order God made the world it is the same phases as they have figured in science calling each eon (millions of years) different names. God called them “days”. First gases coming together, then waters separating, then dry land, then fish and fowl and grasses. Look at it and realize that to God time is nothing more than a day. God gave you a good mind and expects you to use it. But also remember the Bible isn’t a manual on how he made the earth but why he made the earth and man in it. It’s the story of man and his relationship to God. I love earth science and the more I study His handywork the more I am in awe at the Creator.
When you understand that the Bible is metaphorical and allegorical, not literal, like I understood it was when I was 10 years old in 1963, it is not difficult to believe that the Earth is 4.5 to 4.6 billion years old as has constantly been proved by radiometric dating of rocks and meteorites over and over again. The Bible was never meant to be a literal, historical account, even by the people who wrote the Bible.
