Lectures On Creationisim: Sediment And The Flood?

Filed in Category Creationism

Question Posed – I know I just posted, but I needed to reword it and clarify a bit.
A few months back I stumbled on a series of lectures from a professor of religion whose name I can’t remember. He had an entire series devoted to creationism and he was talking about the layers of sediment; how they don’t necessarily align with certain time periods, as is generally accepted in the scientific community. He argued that they settled the way they did during the flood, thus challenging the theory of evolution. It was fascinating. If someone knows what I was talking about and where I could find these again, could you post a link?

    Hello,
No, I’ll pass on that. Spent 4 years studying geology and our decisions and methods of finding our American cousins and Canadians your vital gas and oil does not come from creationist theories I’m afraid.
    Cheers,
    Michael Kelly

Sorry, I can’t point you to the specific lectures you are asking for, but I do have a comment.
Have you ever seen a flood? For example the terrible flood in New Orleans, when the levees broke. Did it look like everything separated nicely into individual sedimentary layers, or that it was all mixed up?
Flooding does not stratify material. It mixes it up and deposits a single composite layer. Multiple floods can produce layers, but that obviously doesn’t work when you are arguing for a single global flood.
Evidence for a global flood would be a single layer that contained a thourough blending of materials, especially covering a wide area.
    Nothing of the sort exists.

Resist the temptation. There was no flood, your “professor’s” work will not have been peer-reviewed and is worthless, he was – however learned – suffering from that cognitive disorder known as creationism, widespread in America but much rarer elsewhere, praise the Lord.
You may possibly be thinking of John Woodmorappe, which isn’t his real name and who has serious anger management issues, but wrote a huge book about this which can still be got hold of through Amazon. Much better than that, teach yourself some real science by going to talkorigins and let them educate this flood nonsense out of your head once and for all.
Henry Morris started all this silliness with “The Genesis Flood”, published in the early sixties. But don’t go there. Be a proper Christian instead.

the fact that he doesn’t seem to realise he’s arguing against geological stratigraphy, not biological evolution, would seem to indicate that he has no idea what he’s talking about, whoever he is. also, I wonder how volcanic and metamorphic strata got wedged in between sedimentary layers… during a flood? this is only the beginning of his problems, I’m afraid.

I agree with Eric, the man is an idiot.
There was a recent documentary about the flood, that it was not world wide, but confined to a particularly large valley in the mid east. It was expanded to include the world as a story to show people both God’s anger and mercy towards mankind. Scientists showed in that same documentary that even if you extracted all the water from underground, the atmosphere, AND the polar regions it would not be enough to flood the entire planet.

All those arguments have already been refuted. Check out the sedimentation-related content here:http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/list.…

Kent Hovind. An idiot (who is currently in jail) that calls himself a doctor because he went to an unaccredited school, and has no idea what evolution even is.

  8. Spazzy- McGee Said:

A professor of religion doesn’t have the education to make statements about geology.

    Ken Ham? Ariel Roth?

drdino.com has videos that talk about this im not sure if that is what you mean.

Perhaps it was Dr. John Morris you heard, or Ken Ham?
Dr. Morris’ father, Henry Morris, wrote a series of books several years ago about the Genesis Flood–in fact, I think that’s the name of one of the books. He was a professor at Virginia Tech back in the 1970′s. I think he was professor of either geology or hydraulic engineering or something along those lines (well, it has been over 30 years!)
Halley’s Bible Handbook has a lot of commentary about the Genesis Flood and the layers of sediment, too.
Finally, I’m sorry for all the trolls who were doing nothing but trying to get you upset. It’s sad when people display their lack of respect, even on forums such as these. I do hope you find the information you’re looking for.

I’m not familiar with the professor you are asking about but I do know a few new things about the flood. The God Yahweh used multiple world wide floods during the millions and or billions of years during the prehistoric eras on Earth. He used them to wipe the slate clean so to speak to start a new era of creating life on Earth. The creation story in Genesis starts out with one of Yahweh’s world wide floods that ended the last prehistoric era of evolution and was the start of the first modern era of Yahweh creating the lifeforms on Earth that we still see some of today. The world wide flood of Noah is actually the second and last world wide flood Yahweh used to wipe the slate clean on Earth to start an new era of evolution on Earth. These floods were the major catastrophe’s that ended and started eras of evolution and not just from asteroid or meteor strikes to the Earth.
